Chilean Travel to Fireland at the "ends of the earth"

Our starting point of adventure in Tierra Del fuego,
Puerto Williams Yacht Club, the "gateway to Fireland".


Micalvi Yacht Club, Puerto Williams, Chile: A
former naval auxiliary vessel, Micalvi, has been
pressed into service to provide hot showers and a
bar for sailors passing through Puerto Williams.
The only claim to fame of this military outpost on
the south bank of Canal Beagle, some 60 miles
north of Cape Horn, is that it's the southernmost
settlement in the world (54.056S, 67.37 W). All
boats going to or coming from Antarctica must
complete formalities in Puerto Williams. They tie
up alongside Micalvi, and their crews end up in
the overheated bar that offers the most potent
pisco sour in Patagonia. Its walls are adorned
with pictures of the boats that regularly sail to
Antarctica: Pelagic, Kotick I, Kotick II, Sarah,
Fernande, Croix San Paul II and Santa Maria. One
of their crews is usually at the bar to frighten
the newcomers with tales of mighty storms that
sweep across Drake Passage. Last season was a busy
season as the usual number of visitors increased
by seven Millennium Odyssey boats, four of which
had sailed to Antarctica.

in Tierra Del Fuego, there is a 5 day trekking
circuit here around the "Teeth" of Navarino Island .
